U.S. Automakers Look to Crossover Car Segment to Energize Sales As automobile manufacturers move through the reorganization process, American car buyers are waiting to see what comes next. And with changing tastes and climbing fuel prices, companies are banking on the Crossover category to energize car sales and bring consumers back into showrooms. The compact Crossover is a car-based vehicle that has the look and feel of an SUV, but the refinement of a car. Due to its rising popularity, General Motors is expecting a growth of about 60% in this category by 2013. In fact, their first vehicle introduced since the reorganization is a completely re-designed crossover SUV called the Equinox. Expected to lead its competitors in fuel economy, the Equinox will get over 32 miles per gallon on the highway and provide a range of nearly 550 miles.
