The Cochran Firm is sued for making fools of its clients, pretending under contract to act as a bereaved family's wrongful death attorneys, but actually working for Memphis-Shelby County Jail, where mentally ill heart patient Larry Neal died under secret arrest after 18 days of incarceration while his family and social worker searched for him as a missing person. Julian Bolton, the managing partner for the Memphis office of the Johnnie Cochran Firm was actually a 20+year Shelby County Commissioner, and the county commission actually owned and operated the jail. The family filed suit in Georgia Superior Court, Judge Wendy Shoob presiding. She dismissed the case, saying that the most famous and widely-advertised law firm in her city, did not exist - at least, not under its advertised identity. Hattie Neal and Mary Neal v.
